Music legend Madlib may have been the busiest guy in the industry this year. In addition to providing the instrumentals for Strong Arm Steady's brilliant record In Search of Stoney Jackson, each month he released a new album or mixtape with themes ranging from Brazilian and Jamaican to progressive funk and fusion.
One of my personal favorites of the bunch has been Medicine Show #10: Black Soul. The mixtape features '60s and '70s disco, funk and soul, spun with a signature Madlib attention to detail and affinity for groove maintenance. Have a taste.
