Now I'd never go and say Diamond D is the greatest producer-MC of all time. But listen to this debut LP, Stunts, Blunts and Hip-hop and it's clear that the dude had some serious intuition when it comes to laying his flow over his own tracks. D's not a spectacular lyricist or even one of the best beatmakers from his era but the dude knew how to make the most out of his art form, flawlessly combining his two talents into a cohesive and undeniably fun record. His rap style incorporates both Q-Tip's groovy nonchalance and Big Daddy Kane's emphasis of the end of the line. As for the instrumentals, they're funky, punchy and bass-centric, never taking away too much interest from the MC's vocals. Check out this track.
