More new metal from The Ocean--and it involves Russian Lit

I apologize for blogging about the same band twice in less than a week, but German metallers The Ocean are just really intent on getting new tracks from their upcoming opus Anthropocentric out to the world wide web before the November 9th release. Check out "The Grand Inquisitor II: Roots & Locusts" over at Stereogum. The song never lets up for its over-six-minute duration, featuring some swift, angular riffage and a truly passionate, peelin'-the-paint-off-the walls vocal performance.

And to all you fans of Russian literature: it's time to break out your Dostoevsky, 'cause in case you didn't notice, "The Grand Inquisitor II: Roots & Locusts" is one of three (!!!) tracks about The Brothers Karamazov on the album. It's concepts like these that remind me why I love metal.

New The Ocean

The Ocean aren't content to release only one monolithic album this year. Even though the quite excellent Heliocentric just came out this past April, the German metal band is readying to drop Anthropocentric in November. You can check out new track "She Was The Universe" here, courtesy of Metal Blade Records. Built on a writhing, pummeling riff, the song should silence all doubts hardcore fans had concerning new singer Loic Rossetti's screaming ability. If "She Was The Universe" is any indicator, Anthropocentric is gonna be one brutal disc.

Anthropocentric will be available for purchase on November 9th.

The Ocean's "Heliocentric"

German experimental metal group The Ocean are dropping a new album, "Heliocentric," this Tuesday. Judging from track names like "Metaphysics of the Hangman" and "The Origin of God," the band isn't shying away from ambitious, far-reaching concepts served up in a sludgy primordial soup of detuned guitars and polyrhythmic drums.

Check out this track, "Firmament." New singer Loïc Rossetti proves himself to be a valuable addition to the band with his mix of melodic cleans and guttural growls.
