I was apprehensive when I first saw this, because the third single off Kanye's fourth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, "Monster," has a general sense of foreboding and overall batshit that I felt was better left to one's imagination. For me, the reason the song is so great is because everyone feels like a monster for different reasons. Apparently for Kanye, his reason is that everyone gets so heated that he decapitates supermodels. What's new. So here's a great video (with the Baddest Bitch at her most ghoulish), perhaps the best of all time. Happy New Year, dudes:

This picture is not a joke. I just heard Korean (because we've got everyone else on this shit) boyband JYJ's "Ayyy Girl," and it's damn near perfect R&B. Who the fuck knows how Kanye got ahold of these dudes but he goes first with his usual verse, seemingly only to get his name on the track. But then JYJ comes in on their best Chris Brown impression, albeit with a tendency to mix up their l's and r's, for some spectacular smooth neo-soul. Plus a Chi poet doing the introducion? These dudes are operating on another level. Phenomenal PacRim pop with phlair.

"Runaway Love (Remix) feat. Raekwon and Kanye West"- Justin Bieber

So marks the first of hopefully numerous Justin Bieber songs TWS can get behind. MY favorite light-voiced songbird is back with a remix...with who? Ye and Rae? I've heard many explanations, most of them based under the assumption that they are under some sort of powerful narcotic, but more likely, JBiebz is a cooler dude than most of America gives him credit for. Consider the people he has charmed: Usher, Luda, and now two of hip-hop's baddest dudes. Kid's got it goin' on.

The song itself slaps you in the face immediately with the "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nothin' to Fuck Wit" beat, and flavored with Chef's typically gravelly tones, you are lulled into perhaps thinking it is a Wu remix, until the chorus does the unthinkable: makes Wu-Tang pop. The overall effect is similar to Mary J. appearing on "All I Need" and I love it.

Some of you might hate me for liking this and it's not the greatest remix (in particular, it doesn't have the organic feel of vintage Wu and Bieber gets a little lost in the sauce), but it is an inspired collaboration from three major heavyweights in pop music and it is an agreeable clash of two worlds. No one wants to be gangsta all the time.

Kanye debuted a few verses at the Facebook HQ from the new album presumably titled Good Ass Job. All I can really say is I'm glad he's rapping again. Here's my favorite of the bunch.

Rick Ross feat. Kanye West

Aside from his voice acting role in Freaknik the Musical I've never been a huge fan of Rick Ross. Standing alongside the heavyweights of the mainstream rap game he amounts to little more than the rapper with the best beard. That said, this track is dope, the beat is halfway between College Dropout and Late Registration sound and it promises the possibility of a solid album from the Teflon Don later this month.

Kanye West - "Power (ft. Dwele)"

I'm going to step out of my comfort zone for a bit to cover a new Kanye West track today, per Dylan's request. Here's "Power," featuring soul singer Dwele. The egotistical rapper spits rhymes with his usual aplomb, thankfully dropping the auto-tune that slathered his latest release, 2008's 808s & Heartbreak. Chanting and steady handclaps propel the driving beat, and Kanye even incorporates some prog-rock with a sample from King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man" (a lolwut moment, for sure). Later on, Dwele smooths things over after a brief synth solo.
