Heavy Rotation: The Roots

Damn hip-hop has been great this year. The new Roots album has been a staple of my interstate driving playback, particularly this outstanding collaboration.

The Roots- "Dear God 2.0"

So we at TWS are straight nutting ourselves in anticipation of this Roots joint, and as a result will continue to upload bangers as they leak to the general public, thus partly quelling our Rootslust while ramping up our carnal desire for the livest ensemble in hip-hop. It is a relationship built upon self-destruction, lies and matriarchal neuroses, but what can a head in love do? "Dear God 2.0" does not disappoint. It is a minimalist track with beautiful jazz-style brushwork on the drums by Questlove, glimmering keyboards, and a lovely sung chorus, showcasing lines like "Ignoring the prophecies/More beef than broccoli". In short, it is quintessential Roots, and a great teaser for the album.
