Curren$y

Ever wondered why the beat to New Orleans MC Curren$y's album cut "The Day" featuring Jay Electronica and Mos Def has eerily similar bass and guitar interactions to "Politics As Usual" by Jay-Z off Reasonable Doubt in '96? Perhaps the reason is that both were produced by none other than the legendary hip-hop beatmaker, Ski Beatz. Back in the 90s he went by "Ski" and fronted a more prolific career with beats for the likes of Jay-Z and of course nearly the entire Uptown Saturday Night album by Camp Lo.

Mos Dub MIXTAPE- Max Tannone

Who the fuck doesn't find Max Tannone's playful mashups of Mos Def rhymes and old-school dub stylings delightful? TWS has spent many moons pondering this question and we have concluded: no one. The beats are obscure enough to satisfy all but the most hardcore, palest DJ Shadow disciple and add a lovely warmth to Mos' raspy delivery. There isn't much to say about it that hasn't been said already except it shall bump from my speakers this summer as long as the sun shines, the surf beckons, and women appear to be more attractive than they would otherwise. Here is the mixtape, so just get it.

For: Fuckin' everyone.
