Now that we're undeniably in the midst of summer, I'm reminded of one of my favorite albums of the season last year. Comets on Fire's Avatar (banish all thoughts of the movie) is a seven song foray through the depths of psychedelic guitar rock, perfect for a lazy summer day. "Lucifer's Memory" is one of the standout tracks. It could be just another lame classic rock power ballad ripoff if not for Ben Chasny's majestic fuzzed-out guitar leads and Ethan Miller's scratchy, soulful voice. The song floats on lightly before slowly fizzing into a haze of squalling feedback and multi-tracked vocals.Comets on Fire - "Lucifer's Memory"
