Every once in a while, I rediscover some long-lost gem while shuffling through my iTunes library. Charged's self-titled album is one of these, an enthralling fusion of jazz and electronic music. The grooves on this recording are absolutely enormous--the mix of live and programmed drums and the huge, warping bass lines would be right at home in dubstep if they were pushed just a bit over the edge. On tracks like "Called," Toshinori Kondo leads the way with effects-treated trumpet leads searing, sliding, and ricocheting all over the place.
